We are off to Newfoundland so tag-along with us.

Tavelling to Twillingate today

Saturday, June 18, 2011

We left Gateway to the North RV park in Deer Lake this morning at 9:00 heading for Twillingate. We ended up driving down to Corner Brook yesterday to get the oil changed in Hemi. It was only 45 km south of Deer Lake. It also gave us a chance to stock up on all our supplies at a large grocery store. I could even get my banking done, so we don’t have to worry about being declined when we frequent the gas stations. It was cloudy and overcast, and spitting off and on, and a balmy 8 degrees. First we are dropping off a package to our dentist’s brother in Gander. Luckily he lives 2 blocks from the highway that we take to Twillingate so we can navigate Hemi and Elbroko through the sub-division, no problem. The transcanada highway is a pretty good highway except at the bottom of the hills there is usually a bridge that has a dip and Hemi goes bouncy bouncy over them, and then Elbroko goes bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy. You would think after 5,000 kms we would be used to that by now, but no, not yet, we are still muttering about it. We are planning on staying for the next 4 or 5 nights in a Provincial Park called Dildo Run, which is just past Virgin Arm….go figure! Not sure how they arrived at some of the names of their villages but they are interesting. We were all set up by 4:00 and I was out hiking the park trail shortly after. I even got a chance to ride my bike today. So far it seems like we are just taking the bikes along for the ride. We are usually out and about for a good part of the day, and if we do happen to be home in good time, it has been too hilly for me, or else it has been raining. My camera had a good rest today, not much happening on the Transcanada, I would have been going through withdrawal except that I took Doug’s little pocket camera on my hike and did manage to take a few shots along the ocean.
